He started on 2nd April 2008 and finished in August 2010. No-one had ever done what he attempted.

“Do you think we are slowly dying?” Cho joked as he picked another tick off my back. It wouldn´t be funny if there wasn´t an element of truth to it. We chuckled, dislodging chunks of flem from our throats as we both have throat infections. Each tick that Cho removes leaves an itchy sore that [...]

The video below tells the story of the first part of the week… Unexpected Logging Roads from Walking the Amazon Videos on Vimeo. We are at the start of the final stage now. With the vast cattle ranches behind us and the flood waters at their highest level of the year, Cho and I are trudging back into the soggy forest with heavier packs than ever. Why heavier? Well we’ve had a spurt of media attention recently from [...]

The “alarming” rate at which species are being lost could have a severe effect on humanity, conservationists warned today. Targets set eight years ago by governments to reduce biodiversity loss by 2010 have not been met, experts confirmed at a UN meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. The third Global Biodiversity Outlook report said loss of wildlife [...]

    • Morale: 9/10 - just had scrambled eggs on toast.

This week students from my old school mutinied and walked out of lessons in protest against what they felt were seven unfair expulsions. Apparently they took to the sports fields “smoking and drinking”. Am I still such a child at the age of 34 that my first amused reaction is, “Brilliant! Go lads!”? Why, 17 [...]
