Firstly a HUGE thanks to Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ Transglobe Expedition Trust who have just saved my bacon and funded us another £2,000. Nadia Nassif is Brazilian and translates all my blogs into Portuguese for the Brazilian section of the website. This week she wrote to me saying: `One thing that is happening here in Brazil is that people are getting very concerned about the Amazon because they are just devastating the forest to build farms. When you [...]

    • Morale: My toes are keeping me down at a 6/10

Arrived back in the jungle two days ago, Saturday, my feet are a lot better but not fully recovered but I knew that Ed and Cho would not be waiting long in Santa Rita. So I took the decision to take the 100-mile boat journey downstream to join them again, which turned out to be [...]

If you already know the situation, and just want to know how you can help – jump to the end. Sam’s feet caused him to take a break from the expedition on Monday and so Cho and I are walking without him at present. He wrote the following before he left: “Disappointing to say but I am having to self-evacuate, (not in the defecating sense), but from the jungle, Ed and Cho. The last week [...]

    • Location: Back in Belem

    • Morale: 8/10 things going well

As the narrow motorboat turned into the smaller Calderon tributary from the vast Solimoes (Amazon) the sudden immersion in lush green jungle gave me the same excited tingling in my stomach as if I had just kissed a girl that I’d liked for a long time. The tangled gallery forest sagged over the river’s edges, [...]
