1. What changes in weather have you seen in the last 20 years?
Each year there is change – sometimes the seasons reverse. Winter used to start November but now it is in March.
2. How has this changed the way you live and work?
Working as a logger if there is low water we can’t float the logs out so we have no opportunity to work. The rains are starting four months late. That’s four months less work.
3. Is life now easier or harder? Why?
Because less people can work in forestry, they are all growing crops and the price of agricultural produce is falling due to the flooded market. Then some summers the sun gets so hot now it burns the rice and the crops fail. I’d say life is harder.
4. Whose fault do you think climate change is?
The large logging companies that export the wood have a lot to answer for. They are changing the ecosystem here and this could be changing the climate. It is possible.
5. What will life be like for your children in 30 years? Does this worry you?
It will be a disaster. They will probably be delinquents with nothing to do. Crops failing, no wood… That said there is a new school in my village so my children (all between 3 and 10) can now learn. That wasn’t always the case.
6. What can we do to stop climate change?
Conserve the rainforest. If we continue to cut the extremes will get worse. There is a town near here called Beirut that has clear fell for miles to crow crops. There are no trees to be seen for miles and we are in the middle of the Amazon.
7. What would you like to say to the readers of this bog all over the world?
Worry about the Amazon – it’s the lungs of the world. Destroy it and we destroy the world. Come here and see for yourself. Hire local people to take you into the jungle like me and we will have an alternative source of income through tourism.

Ed,
I have been following your words and steps and always am eager to hear the voices of the Amazon speak. This latest voice seems to be a sense of balance to what is and what may take place.
I understood your words in a previous mention, when you said, living and providing to live will take president over the wellness of our environment, not that there is no care… (oh it is early and I can’t think clearly) ~smile.
I was laughing yesterday morning because you reposted some earlier blogs and as I was reading… I read (again) the part when you and your guide were singing. I said, I read this before… is Ed losing his mind!? Then I realized when I looked at the date and that there were additional videos in place.
I got worried for you Ed, for a split second… you must hold on to your mental sanity. ~Smile. But seriously, be safe.
Now, about those parasites… is that one in the lastest picture under the skin. Ed…
Get some rest and congratulations on reaching Columbia and all my best to you all as you enter the Brazil area.
