Had to get this one in quickly.
We’ve started. As in we went down to the beach early this morning, Ed in one moto-taxi and me and Oswaldo in another. We nearly got lost right from the start. We’ve walked 4km back into Camana where we intend to continue through the town into the hills. However, at mid morning the temperature is 30 degrees celsius and its not even midday! Our bags are 45kg approx and we’re both utterly knackered with the sweat literally pouring off us. Our bags are already hurting and we can’t stop laughing. All the locals look at us with horror in their eyes and just say “son locos”. The phrase “mad dogs and Englishmen” seems to spring to mind.
We’ve stopped back at the hotel where we stayed so we can upload some footage to Craig (for the blog) thus I have a chance to write this! We’re trying to do 20km minimum a day….but - I don’t think we’ll manage it today, ho hum.
Watch out for the video blog as hopefully it will explain everything. Right, only another 16km to go in increasing temperatures with more humiliating statements from the locals. At least its flat ground for now.
Oh, and Ed has ripped one of the main straps on his rucksack right at the start and is going to have to stitch it back up! Oh how we laughed.

hope you guys manage to travel the amazon
Go well lads! Just back from a weekend in the Brecon Beacons. Snow and easy hills. 10kg pack. 45kg? Better you than me! Have an awesome time.
Good luck
Good luck to you both. I’ve been to some places in Peru you’re visiting and enjoyed reading your stuff on Cuzco and the Incas. Your blog is bringing back wonderful memories of Iquitos and the Amazon and the Peruvian people. Have a great time.
